My name is Teovesta Jebecha and I’m writing on behalf of my mother, Shebire Merid, who is currently fighting Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. The medical name for this cancer is invasive ductal carcinoma with bone metastasis.

The cancer spread to her bones and severely weakened her femur, causing it to fracture. She underwent an emergency hip replacement surgery, but despite the surgery, she has not regained mobility and is currently unable to walk or stand on her own without assistance.

My mother is the kind of person who has always put everyone else before herself. She is deeply caring, generous, and strong, and she has spent her life supporting her family and community without ever asking for anything in return. Seeing her now, unable to walk, far from home, and fighting this disease, has been heartbreaking, especially because she has always been the one taking care of others.

My parents live in Ethiopia, but due to the seriousness and complexity of her condition, my mother and father had to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, where she is receiving specialized cancer treatment. They have already been in Bangkok for almost a month, and her doctors have advised that they may need to remain there for up to a year to complete treatment and closely monitor her condition.

Her treatment plan is intensive and ongoing. She is currently receiving chemotherapy every week, which is expected to continue for approximately a year, unless her treatment plan changes. Alongside this, she is also receiving targeted therapy every 2–3 weeks, which is currently planned for about three months as far as we know. In addition, radiation therapy is planned for her leg, though the exact timing and sequence of this treatment have not yet been determined.

Being away from home for such an extended period has placed an overwhelming financial burden on my parents. In addition to ongoing medical expenses, they are facing the costs of long-term lodging, daily living expenses, caregiving needs, mobility support, and international travel, all while remaining in Bangkok for the duration of her treatment.

As her daughter, it has been incredibly painful to watch my mother endure this, especially knowing she is so far from home and everything familiar. I am asking for help so my parents can focus on her health and healing without the constant fear of how they will afford the care she needs.

እኔ ቴዎብስታ ጀቤቻ እባላለሁ። ይህን ጽሑፍ የምጽፈው በእናቴ ስም ሸቢሬ ሜሪድ ነው። እናቴ በአሁኑ ጊዜ ደረጃ IV ያለ ወራሪ የጡት ካንሰር ከአጥንት መዛመት (metastasis) ጋር እየተዋጋች ትገኛለች።

ካንሰሩ ወደ አጥንቷ በመዛመቱ አጥንቷን አዳክሞ እንዲሰበር አድርጓል። በዚህ ምክንያት ድንገተኛ የዳሌ (hip) ምትክ ቀዶ ጥገና አድርጋለች፤ በአሁኑ ጊዜ በራሷ መቆምም ሆነ መራመድ አትችልም።

እናቴ ለሚያውቋት ሁሉ ሚስኪንና ደራሽ ፣ ሁልጊዜ ሌሎችን ከራሷ የምታስቀድም ፣ ለጋስ እና ጠንካራ ሰው ናት፤ ምንም አይነት ምላሽ ሳትጠይቅ ቤተሰቧን እና ወዳጆቿን በመደገፍ ሕይወቷን አሳልፋለች። በአሁን ሰዐት እናቴን መራመድ ሳትችል፣ ከቤቷ ርቃ እና በካንሰር በሽታ እየተሰቃየች ማየት ልብ ይሰብራል::

ወላጆቼ በመደበኛ ሁኔታ ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ይኖራሉ፤ ነገር ግን በእናቴ የጤና ሁኔታ ክብደት ምክንያት እናቴና አባቴ ወደ ታይላንድ፣ ባንኮክ ለመጓዝ ተገደዋል። እዚያም ልዩ የካንሰር ሕክምና እየተከታተለች ትገኛለች። እስካሁን ለአንድ ወር ያህል ቆይተዋል፣ ሐኪሞቿም ሕክምናው ስለሚፈልገው ጊዜ እስከ አንድ ዓመት ድረስ እንዲቆዩ መክረዋቸዋል።

ሕክምናዋ ቀጣይነት ያለው እና ከባድ ሲሆን አሁን ባለው ሁኔታ ለአንድ ዓመት ያህል የሚቀጥል ሳምንታዊ የኬሞቴራፒ ሕክምና እየተቀበለች ነው። በተጨማሪም በየ 2–3 ሳምንቱ ለሦስት ወራት የታለመ ሕክምና እየተሰጣት ነው፤ እንዲሁም ላልተወሰነ ጊዜም ለእግሯ የጨረር ሕክምና ታቅዶላታል።

ከቤት ርቀው ለረዘም ላለ ጊዜ መቆየታቸው የሕክምና ወጪዎችን፣ የረጅም ጊዜ መኖሪያ፣ የዕለት ተዕለት ኑሮ፣ የመንቀሳቀስ ድጋፍ እና የእንክብካቤ ወጪዎችን ጨምሮ ከባድ የገንዘብ ጫና ፈጥሯል።

እንደ ልጅ፣ ወላጆቼ በገንዘብ ጭንቀት ሳይጫኑ ሙሉ ትኩረታቸውን በእናቴ ጤንነት እና በፈውሷ ላይ እንዲያደርጉ ድጋፍ እጠይቃለሁ። ማንኛውም ልገሳ ወይም ማጋራት ከምታስቡት በላይ ትልቅ ድጋፍ ነው።
