Support She’arim: Give Mishloach Manot for Purim!

Shalom and Chag Purim Sameach (Happy Purim)!

There are four mitzvot (commandments) associated with Purim. The first mitzvah is to listen to a reading of Megillat Esther (the Book of Esther which contains the story of Purim). The second mitzvah is to give gifts to the poor (called Matanot L’evyonim), commonly understood as donating money or food and other items to an organization that helps the less fortunate. The third mitzvah is to have a big meal on Purim. Finally, the fourth mitzvah of Purim is called Mishloach Manot and it means giving gifts of food, traditionally containing fresh fruit and other treats, to members of one’s community. The mitzvah of Mishloach Manot is very important in our Mishkan Ha’am community. You will be receiving a lovely Mishloach Manot bag created with love by a She'arimer at our Purim celebration on Thursday, March 13 at 6 PM. If you cannot attend our celebration, your Mishloach Manot bag will be delivered to you by a member of our kehilah (community).

While it is wonderful to receive Mishloach Manot, the mitzvah is to give Mishloach Manot to community members. To that end, we are asking now for your donation to the 2024 She’arim Purim Fundraiser. Minimum suggested donation is $72. By contributing, you will be helping to spread the joy of the Purim holiday by providing Mishloach Manot to all of our Mishkan Ha’amers. You will also be helping us continue to nurture our wonderful She’arim community - the Jewish summer camp during the year! Please feel free to participate in this fundraiser until Sunday, April 6. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we ask you to give generously.
