I’m raising funds for She Lives, a short feature I wrote and am directing based on my own lived experience. The film is being made in Seattle by a team of local artists and collaborators, and it’s rooted in the creative community that has shaped me and this project from the beginning.
She Lives follows Cam and Larcy, who have loved each other for as long as they can remember. After Larcy’s death, Cam is left with guilt and questions he doesn’t know how to resolve. Rather than focusing on the moment of loss, the story stays with what comes after. The film moves between past and present, following Cam as memories surface in the middle of everyday life.
I was born and raised in Seattle, and I lost a close friend here to suicide. After that loss, I didn’t really know how to talk about what I was carrying. I spent a long time sitting with unanswered questions and moments that kept replaying. That’s where this project began.
For me, some of the most meaningful moments in life have come from talking honestly with someone who knew what it felt like, because they’d been through something similar.
She Lives came out of that.
The film focuses on small, human moments and the things people don’t always know how to say out loud. With its roots firmly in Seattle’s artistic culture, the film blends grounded realism with a strong visual sensibility to create something that feels honest and lived-in.
While this story comes from something personal, it isn’t meant to be private. I hope She Lives connects with people who have lost someone, struggled with their sense of self, or carried grief in ways that felt hard to explain. More than anything, I hope it offers a feeling of recognition, the sense that you’re not alone in it.
Why Your Support Matters
Independent films like She Lives don’t happen without community support. We’re raising $15,000 to bring the film to life in a way that supports the people making it and keeps the work rooted locally.
The funds raised will go toward:
- Production costs, including locations, equipment, props, and wardrobe
- Paying local cast and crew, supporting Seattle artists and sustainable creative work
- Lighting and gear rentals
- Post-production, including editing, sound design, color grading, and original music
- Festival submissions, so the film can be shared with audiences beyond our immediate community
We’ll be filming She Lives in January of 2026, and I’m incredibly grateful to the collaborators who have already committed their time, care, and trust to this project.
