Hi, My name is Shaina (Shay). I'm a 28 year old that has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer that has spread to the lungs and throat. My story starts back in early 2018 when I went in to my Dr for some problems and they suggested that I get a colonoscopy. I went and had one done and the results were that I had multiple polyps. The largest was 33cm. So they scheduled me for colon surgery on Feb 16, 2018. The removed the polyps and sent them off for testing. Feb 26, 2018 the test results came back and it was Stage 2A Colon Cancer. On my follow up appointment on March 13, 2018 the Dr said that all the cancer was removed when the polyps were taken out. Fast forward went to my first 6 month checkup in August 2018 and everything was fine. Went to my second 6 month followup in Feb 2019 and the CT scan results came back and the results were that I had developed pulmonary metastases since March 16, 2018. Some of the cells had laid dormant for a year since the surgery and then traveled through my bloodstream to my lungs and throat. The largest nodule is 31 x 38 mm and is well circumscribed in the lower left lobe and a 11 x 12 mm well circumscribed nodule in the right middle lobe. There is a hypermetabolic focus in my right neck of the thyroid gland with increased metabolic activity and is approximately 15 mm. Also there is subtle focus of increased metabolic activity in the cephalad aspect of the right adrenal gland and it is 4 mm thickening in this region. On March 7, 2019 I went in for a lung biopsy. Then on March 19, 2019 I received the worst news a person could hear. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer that has spread to the lungs and throat. I have been to 2 different Oncologists for opinions and received the same results. They both suggested that I do chemo and direct radiation which I am refusing because for one they said Chemo really wouldn't help that much because my cancer has progressed to much and second I believe chemo kills you quicker than the cancer does. I am wanting to do everything naturally or look into alternative treatments that don't involve chemo. With every appointment comes cost. With every procedure there is a cost. With every trip, meals, lodging, treatments etc there is a cost that I didn't prepare for, a cost I COULDN'T have prepared for.I have a 11 year old daughter whom I would love to see graduate so that is why I am trying to get different treatment options that will help me PROLONG my life and allow me to raise her and see her graduate. As much as my pride wants me to keep this to myself and just deal with it, I have asked God to soften my heart. To let me allow people to help. To ask people for help. Yes, I am asking for help. Whether its reaching out, prayer or helping to offset the costs that will occur during all of this. I am very thankful for any and all of the support I receive. My goal is to offset all the out of pocket expenses as I know this fight will continue. As for now I am trying to go as much as I can to a clinic where I can get vitamin C through an IV that my insurance doesn’t cover, with that is another cost. I believe it could help fight my immune system more than it can its own self and with every visit I can make every little bit helps. Thanks to everyone and all of your thoughts and prayers we can get through this all together with faith all things are possible. Just Believe and I promise God will heal me. The more prayers the better.
