New year, new me? That's how most people bring in the New Year. Unfortunately for Shay, the new year brought along new fears, new challenges and the new fight to prolong her life.
After months of a lingering cough, Shay rushed to the emergency room the week of her 32nd birthday. Doctors at first seemed concerned that Shay had a blood clot of some sort and were worried she would need emergency surgery to fix the clot. After performing CT scans, the radiologist called down to the emergency room to share the shocking news. Shay's scans revealed massive tumors everywhere. Further scans showed tumors in her lungs, bones, and breast. Shay endured 4 days at the hospital away from her 12-year-old son, Benjamin.
On January 2nd, Shay was officially diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. In January she started chemo, which helped shrink the tumors in breast and in her lungs, allowing her to breathe easier. It was soon discovered that the cancer had spread to her liver, leading her oncologist to stop treatment and return to the drawing board. Shay started her second treatment plan on March 21st, which she did for 2 months, before deciding it was destroying her quality of life. Shay recently started her 3rd treatment plan. We are hoping she will have a better quality of life with this new plan, so that she is able to continue working and creating memories with her son. Shay's diagnosis is terminal, her goal is to create as many memories as possible with her son prior to losing her battle with cancer.
I am creating this GoFundMe account in her name to help support her as she deals with medical appointments, juggles new treatment options and plans for the future, on top of her daily tasks as a working single mother of her fantastic 12 year old. Funds will go towards unpaid medical bills, transportation costs, unpaid bills from being unable to work for 6 months while receiving treatment, groceries, and to help create happy memories.
Thank you so much for helping to relieve the financial stress in such a difficult time. Please share Shay's story with friends and family, so that we can expand her support and safety net. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
