Help Shayna Fight Vascular Compression Syndromes & Afford Life-Changing Surgery
Hi, my name is Shayna, and I’m raising funds to help cover the cost of a major surgery that I urgently need to treat multiple rare vascular compression syndromes:
Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS), Nutcracker Syndrome, and Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS).
For over a year, I’ve been suffering from daily, debilitating symptoms including:
• Severe stomach and back pain
• Nausea and vomiting
• Bloating and early satiety
• Fatigue, dizziness, and unintended weight loss
These conditions are caused by major blood vessels and organs being compressed, making it incredibly painful for me to eat, digest food, or live normally. After months of tests, hospital visits, and being misdiagnosed, I was finally given answers—and now I’m facing an extensive surgery that can give me my life back.
What Surgery Am I Having?
I will be undergoing a major open abdominal surgery, including:
• Median Arcuate Ligament (MAL) Release – to relieve compression of the celiac artery
• Left Renal Vein Transposition – to reroute blood flow and relieve Nutcracker Syndrome
• Possible Gastrojejunostomy (GJ) or Duodenojejunostomy (DDJ) – to bypass the part of my intestines compressed by the superior mesenteric artery
This surgery requires a hospital stay of about a week, with a nasogastric tube, IV support, and a slow return to eating and mobility. Recovery is expected to take 6–8 weeks, with follow-up appointments to physical therapy and pain management.
Why I Need Your Help
Although I have insurance, the deductible and out-of-pocket costs are extremely high—and I simply can’t afford it alone.
Your donation will go toward:
• Insurance deductible and copays
• Travel expenses to and from follow up care for physical therapy and pain management.
Any amount helps—truly. Even just sharing this means the world to me. I’m determined to fight through this and reclaim my health, and your support will help make that possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. It’s been a long and painful journey, but I finally have hope. With your help, I can get the care I need and begin to heal.
With gratitude,
Shayna
