Hello Everyone! My name is Shay Lawrence, and I was invited to participate in my age division for the Obstacle Corse Race World Championships in October 2024 in California. I am asking for donations to cover the cost of the trip, race fees, and housing to make this opportunity possible.

Over my lifetime, I have competed in various sports ranging from boxing to cheerleading to softball. Most recently I was a varsity Track and Field athlete at Castleton University. Shortly after graduation, I knew I wanted to keep competing, but I wasn’t sure which sport I would compete in. Then I started to compete in Spartan Races.

Spartan Races are adult obstacle course races that range from 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers. While running the various distances, competitors encounter obstacles such as cargo nets, barbed wire, sandbag carries, rope climbs, etc. Courses for these races happen worldwide in stadiums, mountains, or fields. These races are created to test someone's endurance, upper body strength, and mental grit.

In the last few Spartan Races I have competed in, I have placed 1st in the open division for my gender and age at the Killington 5K Sprint Spartan Race and 2nd in the age division for the Fenway Stadium 5K Spartan Race. These two top-place finishes have earned me the spot to compete in my age division for the Obstacle Corse Race World Championships in California. Unfortunately, with my current financial situation and being a graduate student, I cannot pay for the race fee, transportation, or housing to compete.

Any donation would go a long way in my journey to pay for the opportunity to compete in the World Championship of Obstacle Course Racing. I understand that not everyone can donate, but sharing this post would be just as amazing.

I’ve always wanted to compete in a world championship for my age division, and the reason I shouldn’t be competing shouldn’t be because of financial hardship.
