This campaign is for my husband, Shawn. His journey began about a year ago when he was rushed to the hospital and needed life saving surgery due a blood clot blocking the small intestine. After the doctors reviewed everything it was determined he would need a liver transplant. Shawn then met with the team of doctors at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and was given a MELD score then placed on the national donor registry. However, a year later, not much has changed in terms of his placement on the registry. Doctors suggested Shawn find a living donor, which we did. To complicate things more, HUP said they couldn't do the surgery because of a blood clot in the portal vein and suggested we reach out to UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) to see if they would approve and do the transplant, and they did. But this comes at a huge cost. Since we don't live there, we need to pay for travel and lodging for an extended stay. Between all the medical bills, constant visits to ER, medication, oxygen tanks and machines, and now having to pay for travel and lodging, this has become a very difficult responsibility for our family.

Shawn's condition has continued to worsen over the last year and it has become difficult for him just in his everyday life. He has four beautiful daughters who rely on their dad.
