On Friday September 10th our dad was involved in a motorcycle accident. He was taken by ambulance to Missouri Valley hospital and later transferred to Bergan Mercy where he currently remains. He suffered a tongue laceration, a broken jaw, a couple broken ribs, a bi-lateral pelvic fracture along with some bumps and bruises. He was intubated Friday night until they could get his tongue repaired. On Saturday the 11th a trach was inserted and his tongue repaired. They also did surgery to insert plates into his jaw and as a result it will be wired shut for about 4 weeks. Monday the 14th he had surgery to place screws in his pelvis as it consisted of approximately 6 fractures. He is supposed to be non weight bearing on his right side for about 4 weeks and non weight bearing on the left for 8-12 weeks. He will have to enter a physical rehab facility for an undermined amount of time. He is awake but only for very short periods due to pain medication making him tired.

 

As a result of these injuries it is obvious that he will be out of work for a few months. Due to cancer treatments last year mom Amy, used all the time she had off for that and has taken off all the time she can now to stay with him which unfortunately isn’t much. They do have insurance but there will be costs that just are not covered, including our moms lost wages. Amy Thallas will be using these funds to help cover those lost wages along with dads medical bills.
