The Kennebunk River Club Board of Directors thanks you for reading about this fundraising initiative for Shawn Brooke and his family. As a member of the Board and the greater River Club Family, I am hopeful that as a community we can help our friend and KRC team member to rebuild his home in the Philippines.

As many of you may know, the Philippines has recently suffered extreme weather events with a magnitude 7.4 earthquake and two typhoons, Tino and Uwan. Typhoon Tino hit Cebu directly, the town where Shawn and his family live. This first typhoon was a disaster for the city. Cebu lost over 200 citizens, 15 or more in Shawn’s neighborhood. The water came in so quickly it blew doors off the hinges and windows out of their casings. The water quickly reached the 2nd floor of their home with the furniture floating against the ceiling. As you can see in the photos below, the furniture, appliances, and cars are destroyed, and the fear of mold and mildew is a sad reality, difficult to address with the humid weather. The blue car in the photo is Shawn's truck.

The good news is all are safe, including the dogs, and they have settled into a rental while they begin to rebuild their home. Flood insurance is not available for this area, and the loss of the cars has only increased the financial burden. All donations will go directly to rebuild the damage done during Typhoon Tino. Floors, molding and fixtures will be removed and replaced. Windows, doors, appliances, and furnishings will be disposed of and replaced as well, and water mitigation will be installed to help prevent mold and mildew.

We hope you will consider a donation to help Shawn and Joy rebuild their lives in the Philippines. Any amount, big or small, will go directly to the family to help return them to their home. Joe Brooke, Shawn's father, has agreed to be the recipient of the drive and will disperse the funds promptly. As many of you know, Joe is not only Shawn's father but a Member of our KRC Membership and has dedicated many years to the betterment of our club. We are grateful for his help with this fundraiser.
