Hi! So this one is a lot. We are attempting to raise money for Shawna L. A few years back, she had back surgery to help with pain and mobility. Shawna is a full-time mom to two boys who are barely adults even now. Before these last few months, she was working full-time and putting in 100% effort for anybody that needed it. She would give you the shirt off her back if it would help you, while also working full-time as an independent living skills coordinator, which basically means she helps people relearn the skills they need to independently function.
Now here is where Shawna needs our help and support. She had another back surgery on June 9th. The purpose was to relieve pressure off her back, more specifically her spine. Not only did the hospital not make sure that her surgical site was properly closed, but they also failed to give her the supplies she would need for her recuperation at home.
On July 1, she went for a check-up and "everything was healing just fine." Meanwhile, she has lost a ton of weight, is barely eating, and is not completely cognizant. While talking with her older son on the 5th of July, he explained the bandages she was going through, the clear fluid coming out of her surgical site (think around an 8-inch long deep incision on her spine), and that she was not doing okay. Myself and another friend of ours both told her son to call an ambulance. I work as a CNA, and cerebrospinal fluid coming out of your body is never a good thing. The ambulance took her to a different hospital where she was immediately admitted to the ICU. It was within the next 24-48 hours that it was discovered she was septic, in both her spine and brain. Fast forward to now, Shawna is still on antibiotics and will be for a few more weeks yet. They are still keeping a very close eye in case infections spread again.
Now, this is where help is needed for Shawna. With having been in the hospital and needing to do physical therapy as well as occupational therapy, since her legs are not functioning properly, she is stuck. Her boys are 21 and 23, who are helping her as much as they can. Shawna has support from Donner and Dillon, and they are not mentally equipped to deal with all of this or financially for that matter. Shawna's other family members are doing what they can for her at this time physically, also making sure that her sons are ok. The family is pulling together and putting in their best efforts.
Shawna needs help covering her bills, which I'm sure will include medical bills, rent, utilities, groceries, everything. Shawna has a long recovery ahead of her, and if she needs to work, she will regardless of what doctors tell her. So we, her chosen family, are asking you to help her the way that she herself would do for any one of her clients/patients. We appreciate any help you can give her.
