Support Shawna and Her Kids Through Her Cancer Journey

Donation protected
I'm reaching out to help Shawna, a courageous single mom to three amazing kids ages 2 to 15

Recently, Shawna was diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer, one of the most challenging and aggressive forms of cancer. Unlike other breast cancers, triple-negative doesn’t respond to hormonal therapies, which makes it more difficult to treat and more urgent in terms of care.

Shawna is gearing up to start chemotherapy on July 2nd and will have surgery on June 27th to install a port for treatment. While she will try to work as much as she can during this time, it won't be nearly enough to cover her living expenses. That's why we're aiming to raise $18,000—so Shawna can have about $1,000 each month to help with expenses during her 18-month treatment plan.

Right now, financial pressures are massive. Your donation will directly help her manage the day-to-day living expenses, ensuring she can focus on treatment and her kids, rather than how she'll pay the next bill.

We’re counting on the kindness and generosity of our community to help Shawna through this incredibly tough time. Every donation, no matter the size, and sharing of this campaign are invaluable.

Thank you for your support and for being a part of Shawna’s fight against this horrible disease.

Understanding Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) and Its Treatment:

Triple-negative breast cancer is a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer distinguished by the lack of three common receptors known to fuel most breast cancer growth—estrogen, progesterone, and the HER-2/neu gene. This makes it more challenging to treat as common hormone therapies do not work against it. Here’s what makes TNBC particularly daunting:

  • Lack of Targeted Therapies: TNBC does not respond to hormone therapy drugs or medications that target HER2 receptors, which are effective treatments for other types of breast cancer.
  • Aggressive Treatment Required: Treatment typically involves a combination of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The chemotherapy is often more intense compared to other breast cancers due to the aggressive nature of TNBC.
  • Higher Risk of Recurrence: TNBC has a higher probability of recurrence within the first 3-5 years after treatment, compared to other types of breast cancer.
  • Limited Treatment Windows: Quick and aggressive treatment is crucial because TNBC can spread much faster than other types of breast cancer.
Understanding these challenges underscores the urgency and intensity of the required treatment and highlights why support during this time is crucial for Shawna.
