Hello everyone, my name is Lisa Rademacher and as a lot of you know, my cousin Shawn Martin is in the hospital due to an unforeseen medical emergency. Shawn was taken to the hospital June 29, 2025, after being found unresponsive. He has been in the hospital since then, literally battling for his life. He has been flown to a hospital in Dallas, away from his daughter and local support system. He has been on a ventilator and has had 5 surgeries so far, with the 6th scheduled for tomorrow. He currently has a trach helping him breathe and is still in ICU. Happy news though, Shawn is opening his eyes, sitting up for short periods and communicating some with a speech board! As over the moon as we are for his progress, we know Shawn has a very long road to recovery ahead. We are not sure how much longer he will be hospitalized, if he will need skilled rehab following his discharge, or what the path to full health looks like.
Anyone who knows Shawn knows that he has a heart of gold. His daughter Makenna lives with Shawn full time and she is the absolute light of his life. He has dedicated his adult life to serving and protecting those who need it most. He is kind and generous and now, more than ever, is a chance to repay him for some of that dedication he has always shown to his daughter, his family, his friends and his work. Shawn will absolutely NOT love that I am doing this as he is a proud man, but so many of you have reached out to our family seeing what you can do to help. I can only guess you will all tell him to not be too hard on me when he is able to complain. The only thing we can really be sure of is that we want Shawn to focus on his recovery, but we know he will have bills to pay in order to return to his home as stress free as possible, and no remote idea when or even if, he will return to work. Our hope is to take a little of that pressure off of him so he can focus on getting well and getting home to his daughter.
Shawn’s family wants you all to know that this money will 100% be used to pay his bills and for Makenna’s needs.
If you are able to donate, we know Shawn will be more than grateful. If you cannot donate, that is ok too, we just ask you send any and all positive vibes and prayers his way as he navigates this road. It ALL makes a difference. A kind thought, a silent prayer, all of it. We will be posting updates as we have them and genuinely thank all of you for reaching out in support. Shawn could not have a stronger village in his corner. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
