Shawn's Fight Against Heart Transplant Rejection
Donation protected
My son Shawn Byrd had a heart transplant in Nov. 2016. In the almost 8 years since his transplant, there were only a few times he got sick that required a hospital stay, none that involved his heart. In Dec. 2023 Shawn went into Acute Stage 2R Cellular Rejection and again in July 2024. On last Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, Shawn was admitted to the hospital again, but this time he is also in Antibody Mediated Rejection and Stage 2R Cellular Rejection. He is now having to undergo plasmapheresis and being administered a chemotherapy drug to further surpress his immune system. Although we have medical insurance, which assists with the medical bills, the cost to drive 2 hours to and from Atlanta to Emory University Hospital, the cost of parking and cost of food is already growing. The doctors are unsure of the timeline of when Shawn will be released from the hospital. We ask above all else for prayers, for Shawn, the transplant team and medical staff taking care of Shawn. Any donation you are able to provide is highly appreciated.
