We are Thankful that Shaun did survive the lung transplant that was on February 6th, the surgery was very long started at 12:00 Noon and the surgeon finished at 2:30 am, it was a hard surgery because Shaun lungs were covered in scar tissue and his lungs were almost like plastic, the surgeon said and his lungs were stuck to the wall of his chest, but the Surgeon said it tooks some hours to get the lungs out, they had to hook Shaun to a different kind of machine to keep him alive, but everything was a successful surgery he was cut from one side of his chest to the other side and now staples all the way across his chest and Shaun also had 4 chest tubes for drainage and he now only has 1 left, but it continues to leak out more than should, but doctors and nurses are watching it. he still has the trach and just got off the ventilator and they put a cap on the trach and he is starting to talk again with help of the Speech therapist, his body still shakes when he picks up something, the doctor says because he has been in bed, sick for so long , from being intubated for a long time then got a tracheostomy, that will take time for his body to get stronger and is now on 32 medication to help so that his lungs do not reject, this is one of the most important things is Shaun having his medications and was told for life and the insurance doesn't cover some of them and the are expensive, which is the scary part because if Shaun doesn't get his medications, then that can cause his lungs to fail. Also there are other things he will need to succeed in keeping his new lungs that insurance may not cover and keeping the insurance, has to be paid monthly before the end of the month. it has been hard, but we are Thankful for everyone helping Shaun and he is very grateful to everyone who have been helping and thinking about him. This is the beginning of his second chance at life and with your help, it will help so much for Shaun to live a long life. Please Help Shaun on his new journey to get everything he needs to stay alive and he is slowly doing everything he needs to do to get stronger and keep his new lungs. Thank you so much for your help, it really means A lot to us and especially to Shaun.
