On August 18, 2025, Shaun-Mathieu Smith lost his beloved husband, Carl Bantleon, after ten years together. Carl was a warm, caring, and funny person who brought joy to everyone around him. He was known for his incredible cooking—favorites like Pizza Chicken, corned beef with shredded cabbage, and deboned turkey were staples in their home. As Shaun often said, “He was the one in the kitchen and I was the one in the bar.” Their home was always filled with laughter, good food, and the love they shared with their large circle of friends, who became family over the years.

Carl’s sudden passing has left Shaun-Mathieu facing not only the heartbreak of losing his partner but also the challenge of managing memorial costs and living expenses on his own. The couple had recently bought a home together, and Shaun is now navigating this difficult time with the strength and spirituality that have carried him through many challenges in life. While he is surrounded by friends who care deeply, the financial burden is significant.
