If you know Shaunell, you know she embodies strength in every sense of the word. A loving wife, sister, and friend, Shaunell has always been the one to help others, but now she needs our help.
On Tuesday, January 28th, Shaunell underwent a surgery to remove part of her colon, a result of years of suffering from diverticulitis. The surgery initially appeared successful, but soon after, Shaunell began experiencing severe pain. As the hours went on, the pain only intensified, but the nurse on duty dismissed her concerns, assuring her that everything was fine and offering only prescribed pain medication. Shaunell, knowing something wasn’t right, desperately insisted that if her doctor wasn't called, she would have to call 911 herself.
It was at this moment that Shaunell called her husband, Frank, to come and advocate for her. By the time Frank arrived at the hospital, her doctor finally came in—only to find Shaunell coding. Shaunell was rushed into emergency surgery less than 36 hours after her initial procedure. Doctors discovered a tear in her colon from the first surgery, and she was on the verge of going septic.
The second surgery was intense and critical, but the damage had already taken its toll. What followed was a prolonged and painful hospital stay. For 15 more days, Shaunell fought through excruciating pain, infections, and high doses of antibiotics. Her abdomen was filled with fluid, causing immense discomfort, so they placed an NG tube to drain her system. Later, a feeding tube and PICC line were put in to help sustain her for 14 more days.
The combination of invasive treatments, antibiotics, and the toll on her physical strength left her weak and drained, but through it all, Shaunell’s resilience has shone. However, the emotional and physical strain she’s endured has been overwhelming. The cost of her extended hospital stay, the surgeries, and the ongoing treatments are adding up, and Frank and Shaunell are now facing a mountain of medical bills, all while Frank has had to take extended time off work to be by her side.
We’re asking for your support in this time of great need. No amount is too small, and every donation will go directly towards helping Shaunell and Frank with medical expenses, recovery, and other costs associated with this difficult journey.
If you’ve ever been touched by Shaunell’s kindness and strength, now is the time to give back. Together, we can help lighten their load and show Shaunell that the strength she’s shown through this battle is mirrored by the love and support of those around her.
Thank you for your generosity, prayers, and support. Every bit helps, and we’re beyond grateful for anything you can do.
