Support Shaun Brady's Family After Tragic Loss

Donation protected

I have turned donations to this campaign off while awaiting information from Keli and Jessica of KCIF regarding trustee information to facilitate the transfer of this campaign's funds into the Kansas City Irish Fest Shaun Brady Memorial Fund. Please continue to donate to the official Kansas City Irish Fest Shaun Brady Memorial Fund. As soon as the trust with KCIF is set up and completed, they will notify me. These funds will then seamlessly be placed into the funds of the official Kansas City Irish Fest Shaun Brady Memorial Fund. The donors to BOTH campaigns for the Shaun Brady family have been successful in assiting to relieve some of the unimaginable struggles in this family's future. Of course, we can't bring Shaun back, but we can help where and when we can and when we are needed. I pray you'll not forget additional support, other than monetary, this family is going to need beyond the end of these fundraisers. Their spirits are crushed, their emotions are all over the place, their fears are gripping. Don't allow your discomfort prevent you from reaching out to them due to your concern of bringing up the unpleasant memories. They'll let you know. I also add, please do not allow any negative feelings you may hold regarding my campaign prevent you from donating to the KCIF Shaun Brady Memorial Trust Fund. The whole idea is to embrace this family. To bring them some shred of comfort we can only wish resembled what they were experiencing before they entered their new reality. Remember... "Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann nadaoine"... "We are nothing without community."

Let us honor Shaun Brady by calling this year's fest "The 2024 KCIF Shaun Brady Irish Fest!" ♥️

There's been an EXPLOSION of broken and breaking hearts throughout our community!

"Under the shelter of each other, people survive. We are nothing without community."

"Kansas City chef Shaun Brady was the victim of a fatal shooting outside the Irish restaurant he owned in the Brookside neighborhood Wednesday evening following an armed confrontation.

Brady & Fox Restaurant & Lounge with chef and friend Graham Farris.

The beloved chef was both a father and a prominent figure in Kansas City’s Irish community. He is survived by his wife, Kate, a Wichita native who met Shaun while traveling in Ireland.

"He was a great chef, but he was a better friend, husband, and father,” one friend wrote on Facebook Wednesday night. “We lost a good man tonight. I lost a friend. His family lost much more.”

The victim had been taking out the trash from one of the adjacent businesses when he encountered several people standing around a parked car, DiMartino said. The shooting occurred as the interaction between the man and the group of suspects escalated.

The shooting was witnessed by several people, DiMartino said, and was captured on surveillance cameras from nearby businesses. Officers continued to investigate at the scene of the shooting Wednesday night.

Brady & Fox opened in spring 2022 in east Brookside following more than a decade of culinary collaboration between Brady and Farris. The pair previously ran Shaun’s Public House, an Irish restaurant on Troost Avenue that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shaun grew up in County Tipperary, Ireland, and was one of the youngest graduates from the Dublin Institute of Technology after falling in love with the Dublin restaurant scene.

Shaun worked in kitchens in Europe and Asia before embarking on a culinary career in Chicago. When he relocated to Kansas City to become executive chef at the Ambassador Hotel, Farris became first his apprentice, then his partner.

Shaun was heavily involved in Kansas City’s Irish community. He was also a vocal participant in Kansas City’s Irish Fest, bringing live cooking demonstrations to the festival stage.
