Support Sha's reentry after 25 years in prison
Donation protected
We are raising money to help with our friend Sha’s reentry to New York City after 25 years of incarceration. Sha won his parole in mid-October and is set to be released February 2022. Waiting for him at home are his wife and son, his daughter, grandchildren, and extended family. Sha is 48 years old; he has been incarcerated for nearly half of his life, and for the entire life of his adult son.
Kyla and myself had the absolute pleasure of working with Sha through the Parole Preparation Project. We continue to learn and benefit from his warmth, his thoughtfulness, his humor and friendship.
Reentry anytime is an extremely difficult process, more so during the height of the pandemic. Sha recognizes that a lot has changed since he was last home. While he plans to resume work in the carpentry trade, he acknowledges that his transition will be slow. In the meantime, he will need assistance covering rent, transportation, clothes, food, and other cumulative expenses while he establishes his new life and settles into his first months home.
We urge you to donate to help Sha find stability in the city, and assist his family as they support him in this enormous undertaking. For the entire time he was incarcerated, the desire to return to his family has been his north star. Over the past four months since his parole board hearing, Sha has had to transfer correctional facilities, endure a COVID outbreak in his dormitory, and subsequent segregated housing, and support his family members from a distance through their COVID-19 cases.
We hope that, beyond lessening the burdens of survival that he faces, the financial relief we can collectively provide may allow Sha some ease and joy during this transition.
Anything given will go directly to Sha, and is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!
