Hello everyone! My name is Shari McCollough. I currently own a beautiful property called the Lye Creek Prairie Burn, which I recently inherited from my beloved friend Clint Murray, who passed away on February 13, 2024. Clint purchased the property in 2006 and, in conjunction with the Wetlands Reserve Program, developed it into what it is today. This 83-acre property is located in northeastern Montgomery County and offers a variety of habitats for migratory and nesting birds. It consists primarily of wetlands and native grasses, providing an ideal stopover for birds to forage, preen, bathe, and rest before continuing their journey. Although it's privately owned and operated, nature lovers and birders are always welcome to walk the property.
I am currently working to raise funds for a much-needed 30x40 parking area. The current parking situation presents a couple of issues. Firstly, the low-lying area becomes muddy in the spring, leading to ruts and difficult parking. Additionally, the narrow road causes problems for passing farmers with equipment during planting season. I obtained an estimate from Rob Miller and Chris Torp, both of whom work for the NRCS, and after overcoming some hurdles, we are ready to move forward. I have included the materials list and complete estimate here for transparency. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and anyone who visits the property would greatly benefit from this project. Thank you so much!
Happy Birding,
Shari McCollough
