Dear Friends,
Nearly two years in, our family in Gaza is barely surviving. We’ve lost two brothers: Ra’fat, killed in an airstrike, and Ramez, who died of a heart attack under unbearable stress. Their wives and children remain trapped in Gaza, unprotected and displaced again and again. Our siblings (Nadia, Haneen, Laila, and Rami) and their children, ages 2 to 20, are also there. All have been forced out of Gaza City and are now scattered in tents and makeshift shelters. We have also lost many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Our family has endured the unthinkable: walking past severed limbs on the road, burying loved ones wherever they could, fleeing from quadcopters, going days without food, and watching their children grow numb from hunger and fear.
We are doing everything we can from outside Gaza, but the costs are overwhelming, and the recent order to leave Gaza City has forced them to take on even more expenses just to survive. A tent costs between $600 and $1,500, and renting a small piece of land to pitch that tent is another $1,500 per month. Even transportation, just to travel a few miles south, costs hundreds of dollars. With each new displacement, the financial burden grows heavier, and survival itself has become unaffordable.
