Hi, I'm Reece, and I am starting this fundraiser for my sister, Shantel.

What started as a surgery to have her gallbladder removed over 2 months ago has turned into multiple surgeries from complication after complication.

After her initial surgery, Shantel found out the bile duct to her liver was cut as well. After seeing specialists and getting a drain put in, she found out she would need surgery to redirect her liver to drain into her small intestine. After a few weeks of healing from her botched gallbladder surgery, she was then admitted for her next. This surgery, which should have been 4 1/2 hours, ended up being over 11. They had to open her up from one side of her rib cage to the other, lift it, and fix her. Since this surgery, she has been in the hospital for almost 3 weeks due to complications. A few days after her surgery, her blood pressure tanked, and they found a tear in her spleen that they had to fix. Now, she has an infection, and they had to reopen her surgical incision and keep it open to heal the infection from the inside out.

When all of this is said and done, she will need to stay in Sioux Falls (where she is now, just over an hour from her home) for at least a month for bandage changes, barring any further complications.

During all of this, Shantel has not been able to work. Her medical leave is expired, bills are falling behind, and insurance only covers so much. She wasn't able to be home for Thanksgiving, and probably won't be home for Christmas either. She has two sons at home, one a senior in high school, and the other a 4th grader.

At this point, any type of funds will help tremendously as she battles all of this.
