Just a short time ago, my wife, Shantell, and I were living a life filled with ordinary moments work, laughter, conversations, and plans for the future. Like many couples, we were busy building our lives, never imagining how quickly everything could change. Then came the diagnosis that turned our world upside down: cancer.

Hearing those words is something no family is ever prepared for. In an instant, our sense of normal was replaced with fear, uncertainty, and countless questions about what lay ahead. Shantell faced this news with incredible courage, even as the reality of what was to come began to sink in. The road forward required not just treatment, but a life-altering surgery that would change nearly every aspect of her daily life.

Shantell recently underwent a major and complex surgery that involved the removal of half of her tongue along with her lymph nodes. While the procedure was necessary to fight the cancer and save her life, its impact has been profound. She is currently unable to speak and unable to work, and even the simplest tasks communicating needs, eating, or expressing how she feels have become daily challenges. Watching someone you love endure this level of loss and adjustment is heartbreaking in ways words cannot fully express.

Despite everything, Shantell continues to show extraordinary strength. Her determination to heal, to adapt, and to keep moving forward inspires me every single day. Even without her voice, her resilience speaks volumes. Each small step each appointment, each therapy session, each difficult day faced head-on is a testament to her courage and her will to recover.

However, alongside the emotional and physical toll of this journey, we are facing an overwhelming financial burden. Medical bills from surgery, hospital stays, medications, and follow-up appointments are accumulating rapidly. In addition to this, Shantell requires specialized therapies to help her heal and regain function. Speech therapy, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical care are essential parts of her recovery, but they come at a cost far beyond what we can manage on our own.

With Shantell unable to work, our household income has been significantly impacted at the same time our expenses have increased dramatically. Each day brings new bills, new treatments, and new costs we never anticipated. While we are doing everything we can to stay afloat, the financial stress adds another heavy layer to an already difficult situation. Instead of focusing solely on Shantell’s healing, we often find ourselves worrying about how we will manage what comes next.
