Hi family! As you may know, the Gowan/Edmistens has been navigating the world of senior and dementia care the last couple years. There have been a lot of lessons and learning experiences along the way, and one of the biggest takeaways for me has just been how fragmented and flawed the senior care system is. It has been unfortunate on many levels, especially watching my dad experience high level of burnout from trying to understand all the various options for care, the nuances of creating a safe environment, connecting with caregivers and juggling schedules, etc.
My goal is to create a forum/ website that 1) matches caregivers and clients more efficiently - by incorporating features such as video interviews. This has taken off on nanny and aupair websites, but has yet to reach the senior space. While there are several caregiver matching websites, the profile development is quite limited and unfortunately does not offer a comprehensive feel for the caregiver, leading to communication and search fatigue.
2) real time schedule availability and needs for the caregiver and clients.
3)Community Forum- A built-in forum ( akin to Reddit/Facebook Groups) lets users connect locally for advice, reviews, meetups, and shared experiences — building real community support in the caregiving space.
4) Centralized hub of tools and guides for long-term home care, including home safety checklists, planning templates, local service directories, financial aid and insurance tips.
While unfortunately we cannot reverse or change the course of my mom‘s dementia progression, I do feel compelled to hopefully improve this experience for others and equip people with the tools and resources to make the best option for them.
Your contribution would help with
• website development/domain acquisition
• Caregiver vetting team
• Marketing & pilot programs
• Community content expansion
thanks for your consideration!! Xoxo Shannon
