Hey everyone!! I'm Shannon and I help trap and rehome feral cats in the Minneapolis area with our group Cat Ladies in conjunction with Eden Prairie Lost and Found Pets. A couple days before this past Christmas I finally was able to trap a feral cat that I'd been trying to trap for over two years. In that time I'd seen her with three litters. We had trapped every other feral in that area aside from one of her remaining kittens from her last litter and a couple random tomcats. She was almost singlehandedly replenishing the feral population. I thought she looked pregnant but at her first vet visit the vet couldn't feel kittens so we went on our way. We did hold off on any vaccines that would harm a fetus just in case. During this time my best friend in the world, my dog, Jax was showing his age more everyday. At almost 15 he had a hell of a run for a husky. I finally had to make the hardest decision of my life thus far and I scheduled his euthanasia in my house for Feb. 4th. That morning I woke up preparing myself to face this terrible day and as I walked down the hall and looked in on Momma, I was shocked to see two newly born kittens and more on the way. We let her do her thing in privacy and I said goodbye to one of my biggest blessings. But everything had changed in the atmosphere. A day that I would have always remembered as heartbreaking, now was filled with joy and excitement. I was now welcoming five new souls. I was overcome with gratitude. She had 5 healthy kittens and she was an absolute superhero. We named her Momma and she is such a special cat. In her three short years she has not only survived a really harsh existence but managed to raise multiple kittens. Not many though. We had only ever seen her with two kittens at the most. As you know, it truly takes a village to properly care for these cats. The cost of everything is astronomical and the economy doesn't help. I have always been so blown away with the support that comes from the local cat community on social media. And when I say even just sharing helps, I mean it. Even on other platforms. You guys are a crucial part of this fight and we honestly couldn't and wouldn't want to do it without you. All the funds will go to continuing rescue efforts and maintenance for Momma and the babies, Monster, Mustard, Motleigh, Marleigh and Mischief and other cats we save. They will stay with me for as long as it takes to find them the perfect home and Momma is here for good (no funds will be used for her ongoing care). Thank you so much for everything you do and for being part of the solution!! God bless.❤️
