Hello!
My cousin needs a new kidney.
For the last ten months I have been going through the process of testing for a donor match, and I am so thankful to say I will be donating a kidney to him at Emory on August 11th.
I do not incur costs for the medical procedure (or any of the testing I have done up to this point), but there will be costs over the next few months that I will not be able to qualify for any sort of assistance for.
We just moved back to Georgia in the last month, and I haven’t started a new job as I did not want to delay being able to have this surgery as soon as possible. I have been able to start my petsitting business back up, but I will have to pause that as I heal from the surgery.
There are assistance programs available to donors, and I intend to apply for them, but they will only cover certain expenses, and I am not guaranteed to be approved. Since I am not currently employed, aside from my self-employed petsitting business, I will not qualify for any sort of loss-of-income assistance, nor do I have any sick leave banked that I can cash in.
I plan to spend the weeks of recovery applying for jobs and hopefully setting up some interviews to start a new career ASAP.
Any contributions to this fund are greatly appreciated and will be used to pay for travel, food, and lodging associated with the surgery (something I hope to receive reimbursement assistance for), medications, and monthly bills while I recover and look for a job.

Thank you in advance for anything, even if it’s just sending positive energy or prayers to us as we head into this procedure.
I’ll be sure to keep you updated!
