Hello, let me first start by saying that God is good. And lucky to be alive is exactly what I am. My name is Shannon Shields, and I endured what no human being ever should. On October 29th, in the early morning hours, I was brutally attacked by a man who I was in a 5.5-year relationship with. I had been beaten by him a few nights prior to this, which prompted me to get a protection for abuse order. That paper did not stop this man from contacting me. He was a complete monster this night. He tried to kill me. He repeatedly told my son that I wasn’t leaving that house other than in a body bag. For over an hour, he broke into the house, barricaded us inside, and beat me with a tire iron, a wooden baseball bat, kicking and punching me. He attempted to go after my son, and I threw my almost lifeless body in front of him to keep him safe. This is literally something you see on a true crime episode or a Snapped episode, and I’m very fortunate to not be on that side of the story. My son and I are surrounded by so much love from my friends and family. The hardest part for me is the fact my son has to uproot his entire life. We will be salvaging what we can out of the house, but we are never going back. Obviously, I’m going to be missing work because of this to take time to heal, and that doesn’t help with expenses that will come with getting everything out and into storage and finding Devin and me a new start in life. Any share and donation will help so much to make that process smoother. Domestic violence did not claim my life, and for that, I’ll forever be grateful.
