My name is Shani and I am the founder of Jump2Unite in Hartford, Connecticut. I have poured into my community for many years only to get nothing in return from our city leaders. I have been given space only to have it taken away for other programs as if the existence of Jump2Unite is not as important as all the other programs offered. I am determined to continue on my journey to help those that are in need and need an outlet. Through my program, I feed these children daily because we don’t know how many kids are going home and not being prepared meals. We have no idea the need for an outlet or what we could be saving our youth from. As a young child within my own home, I was molested and physically abused, and I used Double Dutch as an outlet to get me out of that environment. My objective is to not only bring our city together as one for our teenagers and growing youth, but I am never going to give up on being an outlet and a pillar in my community. There are very limited resources to help keep a roof over our program’s head. I have been moved around. I have reached out to try to keep my program up and running with, again, limited resources. I am looking into getting a building so that I can have a place to support our youth with the fundamentals of not only Double Dutch, which creates bonds, being diverse, also health, fitness, youth interaction, growing bonds, and taking our youth out of our city to different places so that they can also meet other youth like them from other cities. This is not only a goal of mine. I am committed to bringing our city together and I need your help. I have a building that I’m interested in and I have to come up with the funds to be able to get it within my grasp. Please, if you can donate anything, nothing is too small and I will continue to seek the assistance of others so that I can be an assistant to others.
