Support Shanice's Recovery and Livelihood

Hello, my name is Shanice Sheck. I am 32 years old. I pride myself on being loving, caring, and hard working. When around my family I am in my most comfort place. We laugh, smile and most of all love on each other in every way. Writing this pains me because an awesome moment with my family quickly turned into one of the worst moments of my life. So I decided to share my experience with everyone.

On 06/09/2024, my family and I decided to have a wonderful evening celebrating the graduates of our family. The night started off awesome, full of laughter and happiness as it always does when we come together. We decided to do something different and decided to ride scooters in the city.

While riding, I fell off the scooter and the scooter fell on my right ankle. While frightened, the pain was so intense I didn’t know what to do. The more I sat the more I started to feel a burning sensation followed by complete numbness. Once I finally caught a glimpse of my ankle I immediately knew that it was broken so my family rushed me to the emergency room. After a long night in the E.R, I was diagnosed with a partial dislocation, a torn ligament, and 2 fractures in my right ankle. The doctors realigned my ankle that night and the pain was unbearable. I was placed in a cast after the initial realignment. I was informed this was temporary and I would have to have surgery in order to heal properly. I went back to the doctor for a follow up appointment the next day and have been confirmed for the scheduling of my surgery to reattach the ligament and repair the fractures. I am currently employed at USPS as a mail carrier. With this kind of injury I can't fulfill my duty as a carrier and subsequently will be out of work for at least for 3 to 5 months. l'm asking for financial support to help cover the missed wages so l can continue to support myself (rent, utilities, car note, etc), to help pay for my surgery, and my upcoming PT/OT appointments. We are all human and if you don’t try we won’t succeed. This incident has put a halt in my everyday life especially with the career that I am currently in.
