My name is Shane Beals. Back on 09/18/24, I was diagnosed with severe COPD. I had a valve put in my left lung today, 12/15/25, at Beth Israel. I now need a lung transplant. Unfortunately, I've been told that the lung transplant won't kill me; kidney failure will kill me after 5 years. I don't have a vehicle to get to all these appointments. I'm embarrassed to ask for help, but the state won't give me disability in time, so I can't afford one. Both my parents died together on 7/25/09, and I'm an only child. I have no one to ask for help. I don't care if I drive a crappy car. I do need to pay for the driver's class, which is roughly $225. The remaining money will go to insurance and a sticker, and I will donate the car to the next needy person before I pass away. I'm happy to provide any paperwork to show I'm telling the truth. I have all the post-op records. MGH will be performing the transplant because MGH and Brigham & Women's are the only two with lung transplant centers. My medical bills are covered with Mass Health, but they don't cover all the supplies needed. like certain medications, supplements, oxygen equipment, nebulizers, transportation, medical bills, food, clothing, housing and oh yeah Christmas. P.S. Prograph is the anti-rejection drug that is going to kill me. Any help getting a vehicle to these appointments would mean life & death to me. I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm more embarrassed asking for help then I could ever possibly put into words. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, and I swear I will pay it forward to the next person in need.
