Support Shane's Heart Recovery Journey

My name is Shane, I’ve had pretty physical job going on 10 yrs working 6-7 days a week. Mostly 9-10 hr days. On Oct 21st when I woke up I noticed my right leg had started swelling up. Didn’t think much of it and went to work like I normally do. Two days later on Oct 23rd both legs had swelled up and I felt very bloated. Not only that it seemed I was losing my breath frequently. After work I went to the ER cause I had a feeling something bad was happening. The hospital did a bunch of tests and concluded I was having congenital heart failure. I’m 40 yrs old and couldn’t believe it! They gave me some meds and sent me on my way saying that it’s serious and I need to be seen by a cardiologist asap. As for work, I got a note to excuse me from work until I seen a cardiologist. Since it’s a medical condition, I applied for Paid Leave Oregon. This program is for certain criteria’s, one of them is so you can get paid while dealing with your medical issue. After my visit with the cardiologist, it was said that the meds they are going to prescribe me it would be good to take 1-2 months off to make sure my heart gets strong again. So I got a doctor note to excuse me until Jan 1st 2025. Paid leave Oregon will pay up to 12 weeks. I had to make a online account in which they sent you a letter in the mail with a code to start your claim. So I’m checking the mail day after day, and after almost three weeks I call and talk to an agent. Come to find out they don’t have the right address on file. I had to upload my license, SS Card, and a piece of mail proving my address. After that about a week later I receive the letter with the code to start my claim. I had to get papers filled out from my work and my doctor. After all said and done I started my claim right before thanksgiving but could state in the claim that I haven’t been paid since Oct 25th. Due to a lot of Oregonians filing for benefits it takes 2-4 weeks to get reviewed. Here it is December 20th and I haven’t received a dime from this program. I got approved $1,200 a week which would have helped in this time of need. I now am facing eviction, my car getting repossessed, and worst of all no money for Christmas. It’s very hard to tell your children you don’t have money for Christmas this year. I am beyond stressed out at a time of need to not have stress and let my heart get stronger. Anything helps and god bless
