Support Shane’s Bankruptcy Filing to Continue College

Hi everyone, this is definitely new to me because I've never really known to reach out for help but this is a time in my life where things matter so much to me.
My name is Shane Fagan, and I’m a student at Ferris State University, studying Digital Animation and Game Design (DAGD). In just my first year here, Ferris has given me so many opportunities to grow, build my portfolio, and work toward the career I’ve dreamed of. I feel lucky to be part of this program that has already done so much for me.
On top of my studies, I’ve also had the honor of being involved in student government here, working to give back to the college that’s helped me so much. The opportunities and experiences here have been life-changing in JUST my first year, and I want nothing more than to keep building onto that. I have already some really awesome things I can put in my portfolio already.
Unfortunately, I’ve run into a challenge that’s threatening my ability to continue at Ferris. Since arriving in August 2024, I’ve been trying desperately to find a job in Big Rapids every single week often reapplying to to all the positions that open up again, but I’ve had no luck securing any employment. The job market here has been tough having so many people in such a small beautiful town, and without an income, I haven’t been able to keep up with my credit card payments.
Before coming to Ferris, I was managing my finances well, I had about $1,000 in credit card debt of my open 10k limit, and over the years, I kept things pretty under control for a young adult. But since September, my debt has grown to $12,000, and with no job to cover those payments, it will only be a matter of time till collections are part of this equation. I’ve worked hard to stay focused on my education, but now, without a real solution, my ability to stay at Ferris is in serious jeopardy.
I never thought I’d be in this position, but filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy seems like the only way to reset things and keep my education on track. I know bankruptcy can sound scary, but for me, it’s the chance to start fresh and keep pursuing the future I’ve been working so hard for. My education and my path forward are what matters most right now, and I don’t plan on using credit anytime soon or getting back into anything likewise till after college.
I’m asking, humbly, for any help or support you can offer, whether that’s a donation or just sharing this campaign with others. I’m still searching for a job, but with your help, I can keep my dream alive and stay on the path that Ferris has helped me build.
Thank you so much for your time, support, and belief in my journey.
