Hello, my name is Shane Marriott, a 2 1/2-year Account Manager for Andy Frain Services and a single mom. My job includes managing security staff at State Farm Arena, which has me in the midst of hundreds of attendees. Before my diagnosis, I was working hard to advance my career.
In January 2024, I started experiencing pain in my rib area and chest. I thought I had strained a muscle and did not see a doctor. Then two lumps appeared on my breast. I did not have health insurance, so my heart sunk with the thought of what I was facing.
By March, I was diagnosed with Her2 double negative stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that had spread to my lung, lymph nodes, and bloodstream. There are no words that can adequately describe the shock and despair, especially with no health insurance. I immediately became frantic that I would lose my job.
My treatment plan includes white cell treatments on Mondays in order to have my chemotherapy on Thursdays. In the beginning, I was able to do my job. When my immune system became so weak, I started routinely catching everything. The level of fatigue is also debilitating.
The isolation gets so hard to manage. I've missed my nephew's wedding and all family gatherings given my risks for infections. The financial strain is even tougher. I'm struggling to make rent, pay utilities, and buy groceries.
