Three years ago, what should have been a joyful day celebrating his daughter’s birthday became the moment Shane’s life changed forever.

A simple accident — a broken ankle — turned into something no one could have imagined. Complications set in, infection took hold, and after everything possible was done, Shane lost his leg below the knee. It was a devastating loss, but Shane faced it the only way he knows how — with strength, resilience, and an unwavering love for his family.

But that was only the beginning.

As he worked to adapt, the strain placed on his body led to the need for a hip replacement. What should have been a step toward recovery instead opened the door to an ongoing nightmare. Infection after infection. Surgery after surgery. More than ten operations. Multiple hip replacements. Each time there was hope, it was met with yet another setback.

Today, Shane remains in hospital, still fighting, still enduring, with no clear end in sight.

Behind every hospital stay is a family holding their breath. Three beautiful children who just want their dad home. And beside it all is his wife, Kelly — holding everything together with incredible strength. Day in and day out, she has been carrying the weight of their world on her shoulders. Caring for their children, managing the household, supporting Shane through every setback, and continuing to push forward even when exhaustion and worry never seem to leave.

She has been the steady force keeping life moving, but the toll has been immense.

And Shane, through all of this, has not only been battling physically, but carrying the emotional, mental, and financial weight of this journey for the past three years.

Through it all, they have shown incredible courage. But even the strongest people cannot do this alone.
