Support Shane as he awaits a Iiver transplant

Donation protected
Hello, this is Shane’s aunt, Connie, and his mother, Kate, who are organizing a fundraiser for Shane Walter. Shane is 36 and will be 37 in April. He and his wife, Megan have been married for three years. They have two boys, Conner who is 10 years old, and Grant who just turned 3 this March. Two years ago, Shane was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and was told he would soon be facing a liver transplant. Unfortunately, that time has arrived. Shane was working as a dump truck driver and had a terrifying experience in early February. As Shane was making a dump truck delivery, he became completely disoriented, but by the grace of God, was able to pull the truck off to the side of the road. Shane managed to contact his boss for help and was transported to the hospital. He was totally incoherent. He didn’t recognize his wife or his brother, nor did he recognize his mother when she called him while in the ER, which nearly devastated her. Shane’s wife informed the doctors at the hospital that Shane had liver disease. The doctors determined that he had hepatic encephalopathy from extremely high levels of ammonia brought on from his liver disease. Shane was in serious condition and stayed in the hospital for a few days until the ammonia levels finally subsided. He left the hospital after being told that he needed to be on the liver transplant list immediately, and was told not to drive because he may experience these dangerous ammonia levels again. So, Shane has been unable to work since February 9th. The angels were definitely with Shane that day as he was on a less-traveled road in Harford County, but could have been on I-95 when this episode occurred. We are so thankful that he managed to pull his truck off the road and avoid hurting himself or another person.
Although Shane and his wife Megan, don’t know we are organizing this fundraiser, we know it will help ease their financial burden. The average cost of a liver transplant is $812,500, and although Megan has good health insurance for herself and Shane, we all know that the loss of income, prescriptions, deductibles, incoming/continuing doctor bills, and other incidentals will be overwhelming. Shane will be unable to work for months, perhaps up to a year depending on whether his body accepts his new liver. Once Shane has the transplant, he will require a 24-hour caregiver to be with him at all times for at least 3-4 months. Life throws us so real curves sometimes, but this one has been a little hard to swallow. To make matters worse, Shane contacted an attorney about filing for disability and was told he could NOT qualify. This was another shock that we weren’t expecting because we had hoped that he could at least get a disability until he could resume working again. With that being said, we are asking all our family and friends to consider a donation to help Shane and Megan through this difficult time in their lives. If you can’t afford a donation, we ask for your prayers for Shane and for Megan. Thank you for any support you can provide. We are forever grateful. God Bless each and everyone of you!
