My name is Shelby. My brother Shamus McCardle is very sick. He was admitted to Morristown Memorial on August 9th. He has stage four cancer. He had to have 7 disks fused together after a five hour surgery to remove tumors that were wrapped around and inside his spine. He returned home for a week before he got an infection in one of the tumors that had been biopsied on his side. He fell in the hospital trying to get to the bathroom. Three days later he couldn’t move his legs. The doctors said he could undergo another surgery to possibly repair his spinal cord but there was no guarantee it would work. That would also prolong radiation and chemotherapy by two weeks. Shamus made the tough decision to deal with being permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Later that same afternoon the doctors told him that he would not be able to get chemotherapy because he wasn’t strong enough. He completed 10 radiation treatments and is now in a rehabilitation center in Parsippany. We would like to bring him home but hospice provides minimal care, a nurse will visit 1-3 days a week and a health aid for about an hour a day. We would need to hire someone who would be able to be here most of the time. He just wants to come home. Please consider donating any amount would help. If you are unable to donate, please share.
