We are coming together to support our coworker and dear friend, Shamika, during an incredibly difficult time for her and her family.
Shamika is one of the strongest women we know - resilient, hardworking, and always showing up for others even while carrying so much on her shoulders. Over the past several years, her family has faced a heartbreaking string of hardships, and yet she continues to persevere with grace and determination.
On April 4, Shamika's daughter was struck by a car and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. She suffered multiple fractures to her tibia and fibula, requiring emergency surgery to place a rod in her leg. After several difficult days in the hospital, her daughter was finally discharged home on April 11, but her recovery journey is only beginning.
Because her daughter was taken to an out-of-network hospital, this has created an unexpected and overwhelming amount of medical expenses. In addition to hospital bills, her daughter now faces extensive physical and occupational therapy as she works towards healing and regaining mobility.
As if that was not enough, Shamika is also dealing with a major transportation setback: her car's transmission has failed, leaving her without dependable transportation. To continue working and supporting her family, she is relying on public transportation - which requires leaving 2.5 hours before her shift - or costly Uber rides that are quickly adding up.
Shamika is a devoted single mother of five children, with three still living at home, and she is doing everything she can to care for her injured daughter while keeping her household afloat.
We are asking for help to ease some of the financial burden on Shamika and her family during this challenging time. Donations will go toward:
- Medical bills and recovery expenses
- Physical and occupational therapy costs
- Transportation expenses to and from work
- Car repairs or replacement so Shamika can regain reliable transportation
- Household expenses while she navigates recovery
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Shamika and her family in your thoughts.
Thank you for helping us support Shamika and her family when they need it the most!
