Support Shalyn's Recovery from Guillain-Barré
Donation protected
On March 31st, Shalyn went to the ED at UAMS for numbness that began in her calves and had worked its way up to her mouth. She was having difficulty swallowing because of the numbness. After numerous tests and scans, she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome on April 1st (it also happened to be her birthday). Since the 31st, she has been admitted to the hospital and receiving excellent care.
The next phase of her care and recovery starts tomorrow. She will be moved to Baptist for inpatient rehab until she can safely be moved home for further therapy. Shalyn has 3 young children, and her husband is currently finishing law school and will sit for his Bar exam this summer. Guillain-Barré has a long road to complete recovery, so Shalyn will be out of work for a prolonged period. These funds will be a huge blessing to help with the large medical costs that have and will be incurred and will help relieve the burden and stress that comes along with them. Any amount will be helpful for this sweet family!
Update 4/17:
Shalyn got her 5th plasma treatment yesterday. The plan had been to discharge her today and send her to Baptist Rehabilitation Institute. The neurologist felt like she hasnt made enough significant improvements so they are postponing discharge and will do two more treatments of plasma (Friday and Monday) and then Tuesday hopefully move her to BRI.
BRI is usually 7-10 days (depending what insurance will authorize at first). They sometimes can get a second week approved just depends on progression and insurance.
