Shaleen is my sister, and she’s one of the strongest people I know. For the past 15 years, she’s endured a relationship marked by violence and fear, which became even more severe two Mother’s Days ago. She’s suffered serious injuries, including having her nose broken twice—the last time on her birthday. Now, her partner is in jail facing multiple charges, and Shaleen is bravely cooperating with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

This is the first time Shaleen has ever been on her own. She’s working part-time as a lunch lady at our local grade school, but it’s not enough to cover her basic needs. She’s facing rent, utilities, groceries, and other bills, all while trying to find full-time work and rebuild her life from the ground up. The transition is overwhelming, and she needs temporary help to get through this difficult period.
