I hope to attend India Medical Mission (IMM) because it reflects how I understand service, healthcare, and responsibility. IMM’s focus on providing basic medical care, promoting community health education, and collaborating with local professionals aligns closely with both the work I currently do and the physician I aspire to become. I am drawn not to short-term intervention, but to learning how meaningful care is built through trust, cultural understanding, and sustained partnership.

Through my clinical roles as a health coach, patient services representative, and medical scribe, I have learned that health outcomes are shaped as much by communication as by medical knowledge. I have witnessed patients managing chronic illness disengage not because they lacked motivation, but because they felt overwhelmed or unheard. In those moments, I came to understand that education when grounded in patience, respect, and clarity is itself a form of care. This perspective has fundamentally shaped how I approach patients and the healthcare systems designed to serve them.

My leadership experiences have further reinforced this understanding. As the founder of SAMBHAV (South Asian Medical Body for Health Access and Vitality), I work to address health disparities within South Asian communities by creating spaces for education, dialogue, and trust-based collaboration among healthcare professionals and community organizations. This work has taught me that meaningful service begins with listening and honoring the knowledge that already exists within communities. IMM’s model of working alongside local medical professionals, rather than independently, reflects the same ethic of respect, partnership, and accountability that guides my work.

I am particularly drawn to IMM’s efforts in Hyderabad because they emphasize humility and learning within resource-limited settings. I view this experience as an opportunity to contribute responsibly while learning from physicians, healthcare workers, and community members who understand their context far better than I do. My experience shadowing physicians in rural Washington, where providers knew families by name and navigated care with limited resources, reinforced my belief that effective medicine is built on relationships, adaptability, and trust.

Attending IMM would allow me to grow both as a learner and as a dependable team member who respects professional scope while contributing thoughtfully. IMM represents a natural continuation of my journey and an opportunity to deepen my commitment to humility, responsibility, and compassionate, community-centered care.
