السلام عليكم
Hi. I am Mohammad Hawari, a Thoracic Surgeon from Nottingham. I am fundraising for Shady Nagy Gaber. Shady is an aspiring paediatric cardiac Surgeon. I met Shady when he was preparing for his fellowship FRCS exam in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He was working in Birmingham Children's hospital and in Leeds congenital heart unit. He then spent around a year in our thoracic unit in Nottingham to learn more about thoracic surgery to be able help as many children as possible with lung and chest conditions. Shady moved on to continue his training in Great Ormond Street in London.
I was very saddened to hear Shady was admitted to hospital last summer with acute bowel infarction (dead bowel) from a blood clotting disorder. He also developed injury to his liver from the same condition. Shady was critical and I am very pleased he survived the operation. He lost his small intestine and now has few openings in the abdomen called stoma, to his stomach and large bowel. Shady now can't eat or drink. He lives on something called TPN, total parenteral nutrition, special feeding fluid, given via his blood vessels. He still has a drain in his liver. Shady lives in a rented studio flat in London, where he is under the care of the medical team in Royal Free Hospital. He is visited daily by a nurse who connects his feeds.
Shady's job contract finished in January. He has no income. He sold his car and he is applying to charities for support. Shady has a mother and sister in Egypt. He has no family in the UK. He is settled in the UK as he lived here and served the NHS for many years.
Shady awaits a decision from the transplant team in Cambridge regarding mutli-organ transplant. This is likely to include bowel, liver, pancreas and stomach. Shady needs our support as friends, colleagues and people with good hearts to get through the next stages of his treatment without much worry about accommodation, bills, travel for medical treatment, daily maintenance and also to get his mother and sister to visit him in the UK and stay with him for some time.
Shady is a brilliant person, always smiling and caring about others. His dream has always been to be a paediatric cardiac Surgeon to help and operate on children with heart conditions all over the world, wherever there is need for his skills. His dream has been interrupted abruptly by this illness. Help me by standing by him in this difficult time and show him that there are people out there who care. Please donate to this cause and let us bring some comfort to Shady.
