Sgt. Roman Sabal, originally from Belize, honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later in the Army Reserves. Roman is the loving father of two U.S.-citizen children, ages 13 and 20, with his U.S.-citizen partner whom he hopes to marry. Roman has been separated from his family for many years – missing birthdays, his eldest son’s high school graduation, and simple joys like sharing a family meal. Despite the distance, Roman regularly has video calls with his family, helping with homework and staying connected.
Because of his military service, Roman has a straightforward path to U.S. citizenship – if only he could attend his citizenship interview. With the help of his lawyers at Public Counsel’s Deported Veterans team, that’s what he tried to do on Monday July 15. But Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) turned Roman away at the border. Roman sold his belongings in Belize and traveled to Tijuana for the most important interview of his life. But with CBP’s refusal to let him enter, he is now in limbo. Public Counsel continues to advocate for the Government to re-schedule Roman’s citizenship interview at the San Ysidro Port of Entry as soon as possible. In the meantime, Roman is in need of support to cover travel and basic living expenses. Please join us in serving Roman, just as he has served us.
Can you help Sgt. Roman Sabal with travel and basic living expenses while he awaits the outcome of his case?
