My beloved father, Sergio Lopes, passed away Saturday morning due to the rejection of his second transplanted heart. He was the most unbelievably caring father and husband who even as he started to slip away, seemed to only care about the impact his death would have on us rather than himself. Our family was small and just became much smaller without the larger than life presence my dad carried with him every day.

Unfortunately, with him out of the picture, it falls on just my mom (a 63 year old tennis coach) and I (a 28 year old salesman/musician) to clean up the mess after years of already having to rebuild our finances from the unimaginable costs of his past transplants and treatments.

Now between the the funeral costs, new medical bills that added up after a whole month in the ICU, and the fact that my mom and I stepped away from work to support my dad as he declined, we feel like we cannot even properly grieve the unexpected loss of someone we loved so much as we scramble to pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars facing us in this disastrous situation.
