Support Serge's Journey to Recovery and Healing

Serge Benoit is a zTrip driver who was shot while he was serving his community, getting passengers transported safely to and from jobs, medical appointments, and school. Serge came to Kansas City in 2021 to be with his daughter. Prior to coming to Kansas City, he drove a taxi in New York for 40 years. He wanted to be in Kansas City to be a part of his daughter's life. Serge is passionate about cooking for his family. He loves nothing more than to make the people around him happy. Serge is funny, kind, and humble. Everyone he meets becomes a friend to him. His work ethic and gentle, kind spirit are truly appreciated by everyone who knows him.

The tragic events that occurred on Sunday, September 15th, have shocked his family, friends, and everyone he works with. That this could happen to such a kind soul is just not something any of us can wrap our heads around. Serge suffered very serious injuries from being shot twice from behind as he was in the driver's seat of his vehicle. One bullet entered his right shoulder; the other entered the right side of his head just below his right ear. The bullet below his ear caused extensive damage to his mouth, jaw, and tongue. It is unclear at present what his recovery will look like, or if he will regain his ability to speak. The trauma of the shooting caused his organs to shut down and caused a stroke, leaving mobility issues on his left side. The organ failure has caused kidney and liver damage. His road to recovery will be long and difficult.

We are asking for help from the community who knew him, were served by him, and anyone else who is willing to help this kind man and his family to get through the recovery and healing process.
