Serena is my best friend and an incredible single mom to her beautiful, spunky daughter Ashten and her loving sons. Recently, Ashten was hospitalized with a suspected Wilms' tumor on her kidney and had to undergo surgery to remove it. The days have been long and uncertain, but through it all, Serena has stayed by Ashten’s side, determined to give her children the best care and support possible.

Before Ashten became ill, Serena experienced a long period of unemployment after a layoff. She was so relieved to find a new job just two months ago, but her daughter’s sudden illness meant she had to take time away before completing her 90 days. This has made things even tougher financially, with hospital bills, treatment costs, groceries, car maintenance, and travel expenses piling up. Serena is doing everything she can, but as a single mom, the weight of these challenges is heavy.
