Support Sera Jay's Battle Against Stage 4 Cancer

Hello, my name is Kelly, and I am fundraising for Sera Jay Schwarz, a popular hair stylist in Arvada, Colorado. She is a good friend and the woman who cuts my hair. I created another GoFundMe for her in 2023 because of her vocal cord cancer. This is a new fundraiser starting in October 2024 because her cancer is now diagnosed as Stage 4. Her husband, Dan Bucknam, and I are organizing this fundraiser.

The doctors treated the original tumor; however, the cancer has spread into Sera Jay’s bloodstream and is metastasizing on her lungs in the form of metastatic neck and head cancer.

Last year included three months of the highest dose of chemo and daily radiation. This year, Sera Jay has been through multiple rounds of chemo, with each cycle creating havoc on her body. A PET scan showed the cancer is spreading with the nodules getting larger. They recently started her on a round of a new chemo drug because immunotherapy has stopped working. Unfortunately, the new chemo is also causing neuropathy.

Sera Jay’s tracheostomy tube in her neck sometimes clogs, and she then struggles to breathe. She has chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain. She was working three days a week at her hairdresser job but recently had to stop working due to pain. Even standing is difficult for her. A recent CT scan shows the lung spot is now a large mass pushing on the airway affecting her breathing, so she is wearing oxygen now.

She is a courageous woman who is kind and a blessing to others. But she can no longer do all of the things she used to do. In the past, she has enjoyed photography, music, writing, and getting outdoors with Bella, her sweet Border Collie.

What does Sera Jay need?

She needs prayer for healing, ability to breathe, and reduced pain. She also needs financial help that will assist with expenses, including the mortgage, and lost wages.
