Support Sephy's Battle Against Cancer

Donation protected
Greetings friends, family, and kind strangers,

In October 2023, our family received the devasting news from my brother Houa and sister-in-law Cee that our nephew, Sephy, only seven, has cancer. We were heartbroken and recognized the immensely difficult journey that awaited them that would demand not only the strength, courage, and resilience of my brother, nyab, nephew, and his siblings but also the financial burden of medical expenses. Despite being so young, Sephy has shown so much strength and resilience in his fight against cancer. He continues to find joy in the company of his family, playing with his favorite toys-all things dinosaurs, and completing his school work, on top of his new routine at the hospital for his chemotherapy.

From Sephy & Sephy's mom:
"This is Sephy, I am on a journey to fight cancer. I am 7 years old. I am the middle child of five. I have two brothers and two sisters. I love dinosaurs. My love for them is so great, it has taken over our home. I am sensitive, sweet, and happy-this is what I have been told (giggles)."

In October 2023, Sephy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, known for its aggressive nature, prone to spreading and growing rapidly. Fortunately, it hasn’t reached any organs or other body parts. His treatment involves chemotherapy followed by surgery that will take at least a year to complete.

Our family’s lives have changed forever after this devastating news. We remained heartbroken and still can’t believe this is happening as we navigate through this difficult period. We’ve gone through the cycles of grief with shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance and are ready to fight alongside him to beat cancer.

Despite having an excellent team of doctors from M Health Fairview helping our family through this, there are still many challenges ahead in his fight against cancer. He started his first rounds of chemotherapy near the end of 2023 and will continue through 2024. The weekly doctor’s appointments and 4-5 days hospitalization stay for chemotherapy have taken a toll on our family physically, mentally, and financially. With one parent unable to work during Sephy’s hospitalization chemotherapy sessions, this has taken a toll on the family financially. Our commitment to his treatments sometimes affects our work, causing ongoing financial difficulties with everyday bills, daily expenses, and hospital bills.

Any funds donated will go towards Sephy’s medical expenses, bills, and things that will help him cope with his fight against cancer. We would like to express our gratitude to each of you who took your time to read, pray, encourage, share, or donate to his treatment.

Thank you for reading Sephy’s Story!

The Xiong Family Houa, Cee, Laraena, Lucian, Sephy, Rhylee, and Aleric.
