On April 12, after leaving Panama City Beach for Spring Break, Semaj Davis was involved in a devastating car accident that severed his femoral artery and all surrounding tissue and muscles in one leg and broke the other. It is truly a miracle he is alive. For a long while, no drivers would stop to help until God sent an angel on assignment. A nurse, experienced in trauma and vascular medicine, noticed his friend on the side of the road in distress and stopped to administer life-saving assistance until emergency supports could arrive.
Semaj was airlifted to Ascension Sacred Heart’s Trauma Center in Panama City, FL. After extraordinary efforts to save Semaj and his left leg, he was transferred to Arthur Blank Children’s Hospital on April 23 by fixed wing plane. The surgical teams’ interventions were excellent but despite all efforts, his leg couldn’t ultimately be saved. He underwent a hip disarticulation and is working through entering adulthood without his leg and life as he knew it.
Semaj is a bright, resilient young man now faced with new challenges that will certainly make him stronger. As he works to regain his independence, your support could make all the difference in accessing a continued quality of care, lifestyle supporting prosthetics, and assistive technology to get him closer to his dream of becoming a pediatric nurse. Funds will help with medical bills, prosthetics, therapy, assistive technology, and more to support Semaj’s recovery and independence.
No parent wants their child to experience trauma, but we believe God will not put more on Semaj and our family than we can bear. As he works to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally, and pursue his nursing degree, your support will supplement our family’s efforts to help him live a long, healthy, and independent life as an individual with an amputation.
