I am reaching out on behalf of my friend, Selvin Mateo, during this incredibly difficult time.

At just 20 years old, Selvin is currently in the hospital after a serious incident that occurred on March 17. That night, he went to the gym, and around 9:30 PM, his mother received a call from him. His voice was soft and unrecognizable as he told her he felt like he was about to faint. His brother immediately rushed to pick him up, but by the time he arrived, Selvin had already lost consciousness.

He was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined that he needed emergency brain surgery due to severe internal bleeding. The surgery was performed the following night, and since then, doctors have been closely monitoring his condition. As of now, they have shared that Selvin may not regain consciousness for anywhere from six months to a year. If this becomes the case, the financial burden of his medical care will be overwhelming especially for his mother, who is raising three children on her own.

Selvin is an incredibly strong and determined person who always strives to better himself each day. He is the kind of person who can light up a room simply by being in it. Whether at work or on the soccer field, he gives his all. When I first met him, he was very shy and quiet, but over time he has grown into someone full of life, always ready to share a joke and bring a smile to others. He has come so far, and everyone who knows him is proud and has nothing but kind words to say about him.

The funds raised will go toward easing the financial burden of Selvin’s medical care, as well as helping support his mother with daily expenses so she can spend more time by his side in the months ahead.

Me dirijo a ustedes en este momento tan difícil en nombre de un amigo, Selvin Mateo.

A sus 20 años, Selvin se encuentra actualmente en el hospital, a la espera de despertar tras un incidente ocurrido el pasado 17 de marzo. Esa noche fue al gimnasio y, alrededor de las 9:30 p. m., su madre recibió una llamada suya. Con una voz muy tenue y apenas audible, le dijo que estaba a punto de desmayarse. Su hermano se apresuró a ir a buscarlo, pero al llegar, Selvin ya se encontraba inconsciente.

Fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital, donde posteriormente informaron a la familia que necesitaría una cirugía debido a una hemorragia cerebral severa. La intervención se realizó la noche siguiente a su ingreso y, desde entonces, los médicos lo mantienen bajo estrecha observación. Han confirmado que existe la posibilidad de que no despierte durante un periodo de entre seis meses y un año.

De ser así, los gastos médicos representarían una carga económica insostenible para su madre, quien enfrenta esta situación sola como madre de tres hijos.

Selvin es una persona increíble y tenaz, que siempre se esfuerza por superarse día a día. Es un ser humano extraordinario, capaz de iluminar cualquier lugar con su sola presencia, mientras dedica todo su empeño tanto a su trabajo como a su pasión por el fútbol. Al principio, era un joven muy tímido y callado; sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo, se fue abriendo y hoy siempre encuentra la manera de sacar una sonrisa con un buen chiste. Ha recorrido un largo camino, y puedo decir con certeza que todos nos sentimos orgullosos de él. Quienes lo conocen no tienen más que palabras de admiración para este gran joven.

Todos los fondos recaudados se destinarán a aliviar la carga económica de su atención médica, así como a apoyar a su madre con sus gastos personales, permitiéndole dedicar más tiempo a estar a su lado durante los próximos meses. Cada donación, sin importar el monto, marcará una gran diferencia para Selvin y su familia.
