My name is Sella, I escaped the oppressive environment of Texas that I grew up in, and arrived in Seattle in 2020. I am a transgender artist who enjoys drawing funny little clown dogs.
Living in Seattle has allowed me to meet and connect with more like-minded queer people than I ever could have dreamed of. Being in the area also allows me to work as an artist full time, as the PNW has bountiful art events. On average I have attended 18 events per year as a vendor. At most events my entire stock is available with sliding scale and I encourage buyers to determine their own cost for my wares based on whats reasonable for them to spend.
I am living with my partner, Rollie, who many of you have met while Rollie helps me at my booth at sales events. Rollie is a disabled artist from Florida, currently in recovery, and cannot seek conventional employment. We moved here together seeking community. I am the only source of income for the both of us. Neither of us have any aid from biological family, who live in red states and are not informed or supportive about our lifestyle.
This is my first time creating a GFM, thank you to those who encouraged me.
The house we are staying in is being Sold, and we must find new housing by the end of October. Our stay here has been the only thing between us and homelessness. We were homeless prior to this location at several different points in our lives.
As of writing this, I have just secured a seasonal job. The job begins this week and ends at the exact same time that we need to move out. After moving this will allow me to prioritize unpacking and getting used to a new area, but it means I wont have any meaningful income coming in, as during the winter months its significantly harder to attend art sales events, as theyre usually held outdoors.
In the last week, Ive followed up on more than 10 possible housing leads, and I am very worried about the high cost of living in the city. Its difficult for me to consider rural housing options as all of our belongings are here in the city and the cost for movers is extremely high. Additionally, because I am visually impaired, I am not able or allowed to operate a vehicle. I walk everywhere, and I am completely dependent on local bus and train routes. This is a big factor in my desire to remain close to the city. I do not have a high enough credit score, or high enough income (3 times the amount of rent is commonly required), to consider being in my own housing. I am seeking an existing queer friendly household that can rent a room to a couple.
additionally, I am handling the housing hunt solo as during the last week, Rollie had a tooth extraction surgery with anesthesia and is currently still recovering.
all of the income I make from my seasonal job will be saved to cover moving and housing costs.
Despite everything I have tried to do I need help. I need help keeping Rollie and myself housed for the winter. All funds from this fundraiser will go to covering the cost of rent for November + December and if anything remains, it will be used for the 2026 rental year.
the first goal is 2k as this would make a big difference in our situation. the stretch goal is 4k because this would make a major difference and relieve a lot of stress.
I have been incredibly stressed out by these circumstances, and even securing just a portion of costs via GFM will be an incredible relief, and allow me to catch my breath. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and for the rest of my life, to anyone who helps us out in any amount.
Seriously. Thank you so much,
Sella
